OLL 2016-17 Class 3 with Charlie

Page history last edited by CHIH-YI WANG 7 years ago

Use this page to introduce yourself to the group using a wiki (you can put similar information as on the blog, if you can't think of anything new to write!).

The page should be a list of names - don't write your content here. Instead, follow the instructions to create a new page. The new page will be your own page, and the link to it (your name) will be on this page.

  1. you need to have "edit" access to this page. If you haven't yet joined the wiki as a writer, you need to do that. Look at the top right of the wiki page - you will see a link to "log in". That will take you to another page, where you can either log in using your email and password, or you can "request access". To join the wiki as a writer you need to first request access (note - when you request access can you make it obvious who you are, or add a message - if I get a request from "prettykittens@hotmail" I'm likely to ignore it!).
  2. On this page you will see two tabs - VIEW and EDIT. Click on the EDIT tab. You will then see a typical toolbar and you can type on the page.
  3. first scroll down the page and place the cursor (click the mouse) on the next line so that you can start typing there - use the table that's set up below so that you can add your name in a list for the group, just to make it easier for us to find everyone
  4. go to the right of the wiki page where you will see "inset a link to a new page". Click on that.
  5. start typing in the box to name your page (your own name would be useful!) and click to create the new page
  6. save this page
  7. on the saved page, click on the new link you have created, to take you to your new page.
  8. edit your new page in the same way as you edited this page

2.5 MINUTE PRESENTATIONS: Your language course

Dear all,  The presentation of your language course this week is just under 2.5 minutes (Please excuse me but I’m going to stop everyone at 2.5 mins as unfortunately we don’t have time for longer as this is our LAST CLASS).

You need to load the link up here on our wiki as we did for the presentations on the mobile apps.

The presentation is spoken and will present and explain the ACTUAL course (ie, no powerpoints!).

You need to explain who the learners are (age, proficiency, country/global), the aim of the course, the structure of the course overall, and one of your lessons/classes/chapters/sections (whatever you call it in your course)

NB for the written assignment, please note that we recommend you show THREE classes/lessons... (see the assignment guidelines).

You need to explain the aims and objectives, needs analysis, syllabus, methods, assessment and evaluation for your course, together with the learning, teaching and online theories underpinning it. If you have time, we are also interested collaboration, accessibility, autonomy… and the other concepts we have discussed in the course this semester.

The assignment is designed for you to show off your understanding, skills, and creativity. You can use any platforms, packages and apps you want IF THEY ARE USEFUL FOR YOUR LEARNERS’ LEARNING. [So, no straight giving lectures online as we know is often done! No test-directed materials, eg, IELTS-only courses – the course should be good for online learners of a specific level anywhere – though possibly restricted by the medium of instruction].

If you are unable to come to class this week, please upload your video of your course presentation to the wiki and I will give you feedback on it.

You are welcome to take down your link straight after your presentation, but please leave your name so I have you down as having presesented...

ONE-MINUTE PRESENTATIONS: Your favourite MOBILE APP for language learning (it might have been designed for something else originally - that's ok, it's how you use it...). Address the following questions:

1) What can you learn or teach with your mobile app?  NB you need to name it, and show what it looks like. Use screenshots in a powerpoint so we can see what it looks like.

NB  I have a connector for apple so your app could be projected directly, but I can't get my android phone to project for everyone to see, so if you are android, please come prepared or use a powerpoint with screenshots.

2) How could you use it for language learning?

3) How is it better than using paper/ coursebooks/ old technology? (If it's not better, then it's not worth using - old technology is good because it does what you want it to).

4) What teaching methodology does it use? Make reference to the theories we have discussed in Semester 1.

5) What are the drawbacks? What are the limitations?

EVALUATION.  The presentations will be followed by a discussion of why, when and how to use mobile language learning apps, and the future of mobile apps.  To help, if you look right, in the menu you will see Evaluation, and Evaluation checklists...

BELOW, LIST YOUR APP, YOUR NAME, AND PUT A LINK TO YOUR PRESENTATION. For ppt, you need to upload your ppt to http://www.slideshare.net/  and then link it.

Put the name of the App first, then a maximum of three people can choose each app. The plan is that we get a good variety of apps, so you may have to present your second favourite if 3 people chose your favourite first.

DO NOT on pain of something very pointy, change anyone else's name, app, link or choice!!! The wiki shows who makes the change...
